Former Dean publishes A-Z of Retirement

Former Dean of Engineering Frank Schroder has recently published his hilarious book on how to retire disgracefully, 'The A-Z of Retirement', with CQU Press.

The book launch was hosted by the Noosa Shire Council at its library.

More than 65 book lovers attended the wine and cheese party. The launch was covered by the local Sunshine Coast newspaper and by ABC Radio.

PhotoID:1902 The book is a joint venture with ABC Local Radio and bears the ABC Logo.

Publisher Professor David Myers said the book received a radio launch with David Anderson of ABC Radio Capricornia, and a series of professional promos are now being boradcast through ABC radio stations all over Queensland.

"This is a book that all wives with husbands intending to retire soon need to have, if they are to survive their husband's retirement," Professor Myers said.

"They have to stop their bloke hanging around the house like a bad smell and getting under their feet.

"They are well advised to administer the test questionnaire to him, watch him fail, read him a chapter a day over breakfast and then push him out the front door.

"You need to learn how to grow old disgracefully," says Frank.

"You can't afford to go from the Board Room to the Bored Room. Re-invent yourself. Forty years of slogging away at your career and doing your duty are the worst possible preparation for retirement.

"Retirement isn't about worrying about your allocated pension. It's about learning how to get off your butt, make friends and have fun again. Like you used to when you were a kid.".

PhotoID:1903 Frank and David got up early in the morning after the big party launch and paddled a double kayak up and down the Noosa River.

Frank favoured a nifty purple and gold outfit for the water and David wore the colours of his old surf club in Sydney, maroon and white. It was hard to miss them as they paddled about dodging the pelicans and the tourist boats.
