Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Troppo Orientation welcomes students in Mackay 

Central Queensland (CQU) Mackay has Gone Troppo for its annual Orientation week as it gears up to welcome 300 on-campus and 40 distance education students to tertiary study.

This Saturday and Sunday, CQU Mackay will hold a special orientation weekend for part-time and distance education students. Throughout the weekend, sessions on assignment writing, student administration, program advice, support services and library facilities will be run.

During Tuesday, February 27 to Friday, March 2, all new full-time students will participate in a variety of preparatory, introductory and social events on the campus.

This includes an official welcome to CQU Mackay on Tuesday February 27 at 9am where special guest speaker and Alumni of CQU, Mr Ken Woods, station Manager of Channel 7 Mackay, will address the new students.

Other activities throughout the week include meetings with student mentors, a partners and parents welcome, relaxation techniques, study technique sessions and a carnival of games, prizes and socializing organized by the Student Association.

Orientation Week is organized by Student Services, CQU Mackay, with contributions from the Student Association.
