Visitor relates views of domestic violence victims on 'system responses'

Leading domestic violence researcher, Canada's Professor Jane Ursel will present a FREE seminar on Women Seeking Safety: Victim's perspectives on justice and social service system responses to domestic violence.
This Queensland Centre for Domestic & Family Violence Research event will be staged at CQUniversity Mackay from 1pm-2pm on Friday, April 29, and video-linked to university campuses in Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Brisbane, Emerald, Cairns and Townsville.

Professor Ursel's presentation will discuss early findings of a longitudinal study aimed at mapping the trajectories of change, and identifying facilitative and inhibitive factors in women's pursuit of freedom from intimate partner violence.
Jane Ursel is a professor of Sociology at the University of Manitoba in Canada and is the Principal Investigator on two longitudinal studies: 1) The Winnipeg Family Violence Court Project, now in its 20th year of operation, collects data on all persons accused of family violence offences in the city and currently has a data set of over 30,000 cases; and 2) The longitudinal study entitled 'the Healing Journey' is the subject of the research seminar and is described above. Jane is also the Director of RESOLVE (Research and Education for Solutions to Violence and Abuse), a tri-provincial research network with offices at the Universities of Manitoba, Regina and Calgary. Most recently she is involved in statement gathering for the Canadian Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
