Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Under 8s Week events make May a merry, merry month 

Under 8s Week events in Rockhampton will help children have fun with photography, music, art and outdoor entertainment.

Five major events have been coordinated by Bachelor of Learning Management (Early Childhood) students of Central Queensland University.

An exhibition of photos taken by children will be launched at 5.30pm on Friday, May 21, at the CQU Early Chilhood building at 240 Quay Street. 'Play spaces through children's lenses' will be open for viewing until May 28. Entry is free.

People who would like their child to be involved can forward a photo taken by the child (not of their child) by May 7.

Digital photos can be emailed to undereights@hotmail.com and standard photos can be either mailed or dropped off at 240 Quay Street.

A children's festival of music called 'Jazzin & Jammin' will be held from 10am-3pm on Sunday, May 23, at the CQU Early Childhood building in Quay Street. Free activities will include instrument making, face painting and live music. Details are available from Steve Hull on 4922 5507 or bingy1@dodo.com.au .

Children can take part in art activities with professional artists during workshops from 10am-11am and from noon-1pm on Sunday, May 23. There is a $5 fee and bookings are essential. An interactive art exhibition called 'Play Art' will be held from 10am-3pm on Sunday, May 23, at the Walter Reid building. This event will showcase children learning through play. Entry is free. Details can be gained via Angela Heffernan on 4921 3299 or ajheffernan@optusnet.com.au .

The final event for Under 8s Week is Romp in the Park at the Botanic Gardens from 9.30am-1pm on Friday, May 28. There will be special guests, entertainment, activities and a fairy and pirate tent. Entry is free. Details are available from Rhana Plummer on 0439 737 046.
