Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Language and I.T. skills help CQU graduate snare IBM job 

Recent CQU graduate Junko Higa is now a specialist IT consultant with IBM Global Services Australia, based in Sydney.

PhotoID:1105 Her Japanese language skills and fluent English - coupled with her information technology skills - were major contributors to her success in obtaining this position. Before taking on this position, Junko worked on the help desk at CQU's Sydney International Campus and worked with ExecuTrain as a customer service adviser/interpreter for Japanese clients.

She graduated from CQU with a Master of Information Systems degree earlier this year.

Junko has recognised the Sydney Campus STEP (Student Training and Employment Team) service for helping with her resume, applications and interviews and for placing her in in both the ExecuTrain and IBM positions.
