About 100 first-year Central Queensland University education students organised activities to promote positive communication within the classroom.
Education lecturer Avril Rose said activities related in increasing self-esteem and developing team-building skills.
“In the past CQU staff have hosted the day, but this year the students had to facilitate and participate in the events,” she said.
“The whole day is about promoting the importance of communication and team building and how these skills can be transferred into the classroom.” .
“Leading up to these activities the students have dealt with matters relating to conflict resolution, communication techniques and organisational skills.” Education lecturer Andrea Orr hoped the students would use the skills to develop communication and problem solving strategies in the classroom. Students will reflect on the term’s work by presenting a video or audio-tape analysis to Ms Rose, Ms Orr and Desley Proud. Ms Rose said this form of assessment allows the students to communicate through a variety technological means.
