New look Mackay campus impresses alumni

CQUniversity graduates were amazed at the changing face of the Mackay campus when they attended an alumni function last week.
Pro Vice-Chancellor (Community & Engagement) and Head of Campus, Dr Pierre Viljoen discussed the significant changes to the Mackay campus with the visiting alumni, which included the new medical imaging programs, student residences and library.
Alumni catch up in Mackay: Cheryl Mitchell, Caryl Turpin and Kerri Fitzmaurice."Until recently Rockhampton was the main campus for the University, however Mackay is now a strong focus with significant improvements, which includes employing new staff to facilitate this growth."
He thanked the alumni for attending the function and reiterated the importance of alumni to the CQUniversity community, saying "Your success is our success".
Dr Viljoen said it was pleasing to see more graduates attending the function this year, which included a number of CQUniversity staff.
Among the attendants were Galina Korotkhih (Doctor of Philosophy, 2003) and her husband, Victor, who works at the Mackay campus. The couple have been living in Australia for 13 years since moving from Russia.
Other attendees included Cheryl Mitchell (Certificate Music Theatre, 2000; Bachelor of Music Theatre, 2003 and Bachelor of Learning Management, 2006) who is an arts teacher at a school in Finch Hatton and Bachelor of Learning Management, 2010 graduate Leisa O'Brien who is working as a relief teacher.
Staff graduates Delma Clifton, Sharon Grubb and Simone Eiser attended the alumni function in Mackay.
Staff graduates included, Maria Tyler (Bachelor of Business - Accounting & Information Systems - Honours, 2009) who is currently undertaking a PhD; Lecturer Delma Clifton (Bachelor of Applied Science (Biology), 1991; Graduate Diploma of Teaching, 1999 and PhD, 2009); Lecturer for School of Education, Simone Eiser (Graduate Diploma of Teaching, 1995), Lecturer, Sharon Grubb (Bachelor of Learning Management, 2005 and enrolled in an MBA; and Academic, Advocacy and Support Officer - Student Association, Rachel Watson (Bachelor of Arts (Honours), 2006).
