IT graduates find work quickly

Despite a reported drop in applications to study information technology at Australian universities, IT graduates were successfully landing employment, according to CQU's program coordinator for Bachelor of Information Technology Mike Gregory.

Mr Gregory said there had been some predictions that a return to the late 1990s when there was a shortage of IT graduates was on the cards.

"There has been a steady decrease in IT enrolments over the last three years," he said.

Mr Gregory said some reports has showed vacancies for IT graduates had doubled in the past year, as school leavers shied away from a technology career.

"Graduates are finding work in their local area and often are finding work before graduation.

"This is the time to study IT." "Not only is the local industry benefiting from CQU's IT graduates, some are also being lured to major centres by high starting salaries around the $50,000 mark," Mr Gregory said.
