Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Elizabeth Anne Taylor AO - Appointment as Emeritus Professor 

Elizabeth was first appointed to CQUniversity in 2001 as Dean of the James Goldston Faculty of Engineering and Physical Systems.  In 2006, Elizabeth was appointed to the position of Executive Dean (and later Pro Vice-Chancellor) of the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health, the position she held at the cessation of her tenure with the University in 2009.

Elizabeth is a highly regarded member of the engineering community and is well known throughout Australia for promoting women within the Engineering profession.

 Elizabeth has been recognised for her contribution to the Engineering discipline by a number of significant awards which include Officer of the Order of Australia in 2004 for ‘service to engineering education through the design and implementation of innovative academic programs, to professional associations, and to enhancing the status of women in the profession and promoting it as a career option'; the Eric Brier Memorial Award, Queensland Division, Engineers Australia in 2007 for significant contribution to advancing the public status of the profession of engineering, particularly in the field of sustainable development; and the Boeing Medal for ‘Excellence in Engineering Education', Australasian Association for Engineering Education in 1998.

Since leaving the University, Elizabeth has continued her involvement with the Engineering profession in many ways, including her appointment as the Chair of the Board of Professional Engineers Queensland, an appointment through which she will have ongoing contact and interaction with the CQUniversity Engineering programs.
