Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

13th graduation for CQU Fiji 

CQU will this month (November 28) mark its 13th Fiji graduation since opening a campus in Suva in 1998.

A total of 54 business, informatics and communication graduates will attend the 4.30pm ceremony at the Tradewinds Convention Centre in Queen's Road. Their countries of birth include China, England, and Sri Lanka as well as Fiji.

Graduates and officials, including the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, will hear a guest speech from prominent banker David Evans (pictured).

Mr Evans is currently the Chief Manager, Fiji for Westpac Banking Corporation, which established a banking operation in Fiji over 100 years ago. His 29-year career with the Westpac Group encompasses senior appointments in Western Australia as State Manager Specialists Sales, and in Tasmania as State Manager for the Australian Guarantee Corporation. His banking and finance career has included postings in Taipei, and various areas throughout Queensland and New South Wales in Australia.

Mr Evans is the President of the Fiji Australia Business Council, Chairman of the Association of Banks in Fiji and a board member of the National Anti Litter Campaign.

In 2003, he was awarded the Centenary Medal by the Australian Government for his contribution and personal commitment to society and his services to health in Australia.
