Gladstone and Rockhampton involved in Post Weld Heat Treatment symposium

Technicians, engineers and managers involved with welding in the Gladstone and Rockhampton regions used teleconferencing facilities to attend a Post Weld Heat Treatment Symposium on Thursday night at Central Queensland University campuses.

The Symposium was organised by the Joint Societies of the Materials and Manufacturing Societies of Queensland and was teleconferenced from Brisbane to delegates at Rockhampton and Gladstone.

Speakers from Materials Australia, the Welding Technology Institute of Australia, the Australasian Corrosion Association and the Australian Institute for Non-Destructive Testing presented on their specialist areas, allowing participants to be updated on the latest knowledge and to network with different organisations.

The event was hosted in Gladstone by CQU’s Process Engineering and Light Metals centre and Acting Director, Professor Richard Clegg, who said feedback on the night was very positive. There were approximately 30 attendees in Gladstone and 10 in Rockhampton, with about 70 people in the Hawken Auditorium in Brisbane.

“This teleconferenced event was an example of what the future holds for regional professionals. It was an excellent opportunity to network with people from around the state without having to travel.

“There was a lot of interaction between those at the regional centres and the Brisbane group, with the regional attendees being able to provide a lot of their own observations and feedback from their areas of work,” said Professor Clegg.

The proceedings were recorded and will be web-streamed on the Australasian Corrosion Association’s website, www.corrosion.com.au at a later date.
