Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Primary Industries Research Centre achieves 24:1 return on CQU investment 

The 2005 Primary Industries Research Centre (PIRC) annual report, recently submitted to the Office of Research, records a total income of $1.8 miillion, graduation of 7 postgraduate students, and publication of 30 refereed journal articles.

PhotoID:3292 This was achieved on the basis of a direct University contribution of $74,500, and thus represents a 24:1 return on this investment in the form of the dollar value of IGS (Institutional Grants Scheme), RIBG (Research Infrastructure Block Grant), national competitive grants and other research grants.

PIRC activity earnt 78% of the 2005 Research Infrastructure Block Grant (which is calculated on National Competitive grant income). Professor David Midmore, Director of the Centre, said "jolly good show old chaps" and that he was particularly pleased with the postgraduation completions, which add to a CQU network in professional positions.
