Central Queensland University is encouraging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to consider university as the key to a better future.

And there is no time like the present. With applications for mid-year entry closing soon, the staff at CQU's Indigenous Learning, Spirituality and Research Centre, Nulloo Yumbah can answer any of your questions regarding study programs, alternative entry and study support.

Nulloo Yumbah provides academic and personalised service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying at CQU.

The Tertiary Entry Program (TEP) is Nulloo Yumbah's hugely successful enabling program which helps a number of indigenous students prepare for university study.

Aaron Paterson was one student who used the TEP program to create a better career for himself.

"I was 32, a burnt-out fella and thinking, ‘What have I been doing with my life, there's got to be something better than this!'" Aaron explained.

"And then I came across Central Queensland University's Tertiary Entry Program. The idea of going to Uni made me nervous but hey, who can change you, except yourself?

"When I first started I met a lot of people who were really caring and helpful, staff and other students, so I soon felt comfortable in the Uni environment. I made a lot of friends, had a great time and got a Certificate.

"Uni gave me a greater confidence in myself, and now I really love the work that I do within the Murri Community."
