Visiting Scholar from the University of South Africa (UNISA), George Payne made a lasting impression on CQUniversity staff this week after he made the closing address at the Lifelong Learning Conference and a special presentation on Creating Winners for Life.

Grateful for the opportunity to network and learn from the staff in Rockhampton, George believed his university had much to learn from CQUniversity particularly in regards to online learning systems and bridging programs.

He also had much to impart to CQUniversity including his love of life and his love of his job.

"I am just in love with my work," George shared. "My life is a miracle."

"I have really enjoyed being at CQUniversity ... Australians are really beautiful people. I have met many wonderful people who I can learn from."

George is the Deputy Director: Facilitation of Learning and ICT Support at UNISA, Gauteng region. The region is currently servicing 120,000 students as per a menu of learner support services.

UNISA is an Open Distance Learning (ODL) university and is currently using a hybrid model embedded in distance education and ODL principles due to the changing profile of students and the higher education environment.

UNISA has a student base of 260,000 students. George is responsible for learning support of about half of these university students, from enrolment to graduation.
