Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

The Conferring of the degree of Honorary Master of Engineering on Trevor Darrell Gear 

Trevor Gear has been an outstanding mentor to CQUniversity engineering co-op students, providing exceptional research opportunities that significantly enhance the quality of the student experience and which provide meaningful ‘real world' training, giving CQUniversity students a head start in the workplace.  He has worked in a collaborative manner with university staff and students to produce some outstanding outcomes which have been widely recognised in both industry and academic circles.

Trevor has always been keen to support the education of undergraduates and the development of graduates within the electricity industry through mentoring; assistance with thesis projects relevant to the electricity distribution industry; working with, coaching and encouraging vacation and co-op students on placement; and ensuring that these students have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform at a high level within the industry following graduation.

Trevor is a highly regarded and respected member of Ergon Energy, having been involved in the electricity industry since 1986.  He is a key player in the Australian electrical industry and is responsible for establishing and implementing Ergon's power quality policies, strategies, standards, plans, processes and associated technologies. 

Trevor Gear is an outstanding ambassador for the profession and a tireless supporter of CQUniversity.
