Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Dr Gallie elected to national safety education role 

Dr Karen Gallie, a recent arrival to CQU's School of Health and Human Performance, has been elected inaugural President of the Safety Institute of Australia's (SIA) Educator Chapter.

Dr Gallie said Occupational Health and Safety was going through a crucial period.

"OHS education and training in Australia and SIA members are busy ensuring that this important area thrives in the future," she said.

Dr Callie said staff or students interested in the future of OHS education and training were able to participate in the upcoming Safety Conference via web cast on October 14.

The web cast could be accessed via www.sia.org.au from 9.30am-5pm (Sydney time).

Speakers of the day include Robin Stewart-Crompton, CEO of NOHSC (National Occupational Health & Safety Commission - Canberra) and Roberta Ellis, Vice President of the Workers Compensation Board of British Columbia, Canada.
