Third-time winners of CQU Science Quiz
Published on 20 October, 2004
Year 10 students from Mackay North State High school were presented with the CQU Science Quiz trophy this week, for the third time in six years.
The CQU Science Quiz is held each year as part of CQU Science Week. This year’s quiz involved nine teams of students representing five local schools.
Students from Clermont High, Mackay Christian College, North Mackay State High, Pioneer High and Whitsunday Anglican School competed for the prize by correctly answering as many science based questions as possible within two minutes. This was followed by the popular ‘beat the buzzer’ round.
The top three schools, Whitsunday Anglican, Mackay North State High and Pioneer Senior High then competed in the final round, with Mackay North State High emerging as the winner.
According to CQU lecturer Delma Clifton, who compiled this year’s quiz, “some of the questions are obscure and challenging, but this year’s winners amazed me with their ability to answer questions from a variety of topics quickly and accurately".
“The aim of the quiz is to reward excellence in science and to have a bit of fun as well,” said Ms Clifton. “I am very impressed with the way the students interact across schools, and they all seem to enjoy the competition.".
Congratulations to the winning team members from North Mackay State High, Matthew Oberg, Hayden Bratt and Robert Chapman.
