Glenmore's top students go to Uni

About 25 of Glenmore State High School’s ‘brainiest’ Year 9 students will get a taste of maths, science and technology at Central Queensland University this week.

The students of the school’s ELP (Extended Learning Program) will attend a day of workshops at CQU on Friday, December 8. The workshops will give students an insight into university level study.

The participating students have a keen interest in maths, science and technology and are accelerating into Year 11 studies in these subjects next year.

Students will attend workshops on problem solving, mind training, Photoshop, biology and robotics.

CQU mathematician Dr Rob McDougall said the ELP students will benefit greatly from the activities that only university students usually get to do.

“The material covered in these workshops has been recrafted to make it accessible to all those interested in university study. It's a taste of what they might do at university without having to stay up late finishing assignments.

“We hope that by participating in workshops like this, high school students are encouraged to explore their career options in mathematics, science and technology areas".
