In the short period since joining the campus in 2005 as a casual tutor, Peter has become a full-time lecturer and is now course co-ordinator of Taxation Law for the Master of Accounting programs.

He still makes time to attend industry seminars, both as a delegate and as a presenter, and is a member of various professional associations (including being a Fellow of the Tax Institute of Australia).

"As my field of teaching is Taxation Law, as a TIA Fellow I am always exposed to the latest developments in my field and I follow these keenly," Peter says.

"I regularly run Tax Law update sessions for the TIA and general Tax Law seminars for CPA and the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

"These sessions give me particular insight into the specific Tax Law issues faced by professionals in their practices.

"This allows me to take my teaching of the subject in an academic forum to a much deeper and more practical level.  In my subject area it assists me to arm Tax Law students with an understanding of the subject that allows for an efficient transition into Tax Law practice."

Mr Adams was one of CQUniversity's nominees for the national Carrick Awards, recognising teaching excellence in 2007. It was typical of Peter's sharing approach that he insisted the monetary award attached to his nomination should be spent bringing a distinguished visitor to the campus.

"My professional philosophy is premised on being solution-focused rather than issue-focused in a manner which is demonstrable of my knowledge, experience and integrity," Peter says.

"I believe teaching, both on an academic and professional level, will always be a major part of my career and this will certainly be the case over the next 3 to 5 years.

"In addition I hope to have achieved a level of recognition for my Tax Law expertise in terms of which my counsel will be widely sought in both the public and private sector."
