This week, the Hon. De-Anne Kelly, member for Dawson, officially welcomd twenty four Korean students to the CQU Mackay Campus by presenting the group with an Australian flag.
The Students, from Ulsan College, South East Korea, arrived in Mackay on Sunday and commenced English classes on Monday at the CQU Mackay campus after a welcome by staff and instructors of CQU. The students are accompanied by Professor Kang from Ulsan College.
The visit was arranged through The Mackay International Education and Training Consortium (EdMac) and is the first International study tour organised by the group. The students are in Mackay for four weeks where their learning will take place both in and out of the classroom. The students study programme is designed to give them a chance to practice their English in a practical, everyday manner while also providing them with an opportunity to explore Mackay.
The students are housed with local families in a home stay environment, giving them further insight into life in Mackay.
Chair of EdMac and Head of CQU Mackay Campus Professor Phillip Clift, said “It is a wonderful opportunity for the region and it’s expected to be the first of many such visits from International students to Mackay”.
