Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Easier online access for students and staff 

The Information Technology Division has completed an upgrade to staff and student modem services at Bundaberg, Gladstone and Mackay. The new service will be available Monday 15 July.

“You’ll see a real difference in reliability and access,” said Donna Lee Bradford, ITD Client Service Centre manager.

Staff will need to reconfigure its computers to take advantage of the improved services. ITD advises that you go to http://www.cqu.edu.au/itd/clientservice/staff/restrictedpool.htm for easy-to-understand directions.

And you don’t have to change your username or password. You only need to change the telephone number your modem dials.

Staff numbers are as follows: Bundaberg, 07 41319300 Gladstone, 07 49707400 Mackay, 07 49633400 Any staff member who needs to use the computer/s from home to complete course work or research and/or need access to the administration systems is eligible to obtain a staff modem account with approval from the head of faculty or head of division. This includes staff of other Universities other than the Central Queensland University. The cost is $7 for 40 hours a month and 30c every hour over the 40 hours. The steps required to get online are: - An email or memo to be sent to the Client Service Centre from Finance Officer or Head of Faculty/Division.

- User's full name and email address and staff payroll number.

- Cost code (new and old) for the faculty/division. - Authorisation from Finance Officer or HOD. - We will then process the account and enter it into the AR system, enter a solution and close the job off. - We will ring/fax the user involved to give them their username and password. - The user will automatically receive an email that states what they have to do to configure their computer to log on to the Staff Modem Pool. Alternatively, they can go to the website above, print the documentation out and take it home.

Student Modem Services at Bundaberg, Gladstone and Mackay have also been upgraded and will be available for use from Monday 15 July 2002.

The old Student modem service and the upgraded Student modem service will run in parallel until Friday 2 August 2002 at 4:00pm, at which time, the old modem service will be switched off. Therefore, ITD urges students to change dial-up settings on PCs at home.

ITD notes that it makes no guarantee for the reliability or availability of this service. If students require a higher level of service, ITD recommends subscribing to an external Internet Service Provider (ISP). There are restrictions to the upgraded Student modem service.
