Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Leading American academic visits CQU Rockhampton 

Leading American academic Professor Moya Andrews has visited CQU Rockhampton to meet staff and students.

Until her recent retirement, Andrews was Professor of Speech and Hearing Sciences and Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculties at Indiana University Bloomington.

PhotoID:1589 The visitor delivered a Teaching and Learning lunchtime seminar on Monday (Sept 6) and also addressed a luncheon gathering on Tuesday (September 7) on the subject of ‘Women in Higher Education in the US – Achieving the Balance’. She will return to CQU Rockhampton in late September (Sept 28-30).

Professor Andrews is a certified, licensed speech-language-pathologist and a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and of the Society of Ear, Nose and Throat Advances in Children.

She has worked in schools, clinics and hospitals in Australia, Great Britain, and the United States.

Her publications include numerous research journal articles, therapy protocols and the ‘Manual of Voice Treatment: Pediatrics through Geriatrics’ published by Singular-Thompson Learning.

Professor Andrews serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Voice. She has received the Outstanding Clinician Award from the Indiana Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the 1999 Distinguished Scholar Award from Indiana University’s Office of Women’s Affairs in Bloomington. She is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association and in 2001 received its highest accolade of Honours.ENDS For details call Georgina Pickering on 4930 9883.
