Gold Coast campus helps with Harare donations

The Smile Project is set to bring joy and happiness, even for a just a moment, to families that struggle with day to day living.

The project team spent the last part of 2009 and 2010 bringing smiles to families all over Harare by providing tinned food, donated from Gold Coast businesses and CQUniversity. This project was coordinated by Masters of Management (Marketing) student Debbie Nhari, who has since graduated.

The distribution reached people in Chitungwiza, Mabvuku, Epworth, Kambuzuma and Sunningdale to name a few of the high density areas visited.

The canned food distribution was mainly aimed at widows or large families and depending on the size of the family they received adequate cans to assist.

Unfortunately as there are many people to be helped a lot of the areas will only be visited once but they do need continual food supplies.

Clothes were distributed and toys sent to clinics like Parirenyatwa and Newlands that assist people with numerous medical issues and those affected by HIV aids.

The team has also given some assistance to a church that feeds the homeless every Saturday in the city centre. Each can of food has made a great difference in someone's life in Harare.

The project has also embarked on using some of the other toys donated to assist a children's home called Tariro house of hope.

In return, they will dedicate the room to CQUniversity and to say thank you to everyone who has helped in making this possible. All the other people outside of CQUniversity who donated with such a big heart will be part of the great wall in the children's entertainment room.
