Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Special awards and research a feature of Rockhampton graduation 

Special awards and research degrees were a feature of CQU's Rockhampton Graduation Ceremony, held on Monday evening, September 24, at the Baptist Tabernacle in Norman Road.

A record 18 research students graduated from Masters and doctoral degrees, 3 honorary degrees were conferred and an Emeritus Professor was appointed.

A record number of research higher degree graduates 

A total of 192 graduates attended the ceremony and heard from guest speaker Ted Scott. Mr Scott is the former Stanwell Corporation CEO and also has roles with other bodies including the Institute of Sustainable Regional Development, the CRC for Asset Management, Djarrugun College, the Fitzroy Basin Association and The Beacon Foundation.

The late David Myers made an outstanding contribution to CQU and to Australian literature and was made an Emeritus Professor of the University. He was also conferred with the degree of Honorary Doctor of Letters.

A long-serving community volunteer member on CQU's Human Research Ethics Committee, Graham Fenlon, was conferred with the honorary award of Companion of the University.

A prominent and long-serving Rockhampton pharmacist Barry Bryant was conferred with the degree of Honorary Master of Science in recognition of his contribution to science and his dedication to education.
