Help make wallaby wish list a reality

A refuge for endangered bridled nail tail wallaby near Rockhampton is seeking donations from the region to help its wish list become a reality.

Project Kial was born from Tina Janssen and her partner Peter Brooks’ passion for the welfare of the species.

Using their own money, the couple established a refuge on their property 'Kial', near Marlborough.

PhotoID:2690 There they work with the support from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, CQU School of Chemical and Biomedical Sciences, the Work for the Dole program and a variety of overseas volunteers, who come and stay for varying lengths of time.

The numbers of bridled nail tails (Onychogalea fraenata), are down to only a little over 100, all in the Central Queensland area. About 70 of those are to be found on 'Kial'.

Recently, Tina’s dream of having a stainless steel examination table was made a reality with a donation from Adnought Sheet Metal Fabrication at Parkhurst. They also received large cooking pots, sleeping bags and blankets donated by CQU Community Program visitors.

"I am overwhelmed by people's generosity.".
