CQU Welcomes Recognition for Noosa Teaching Initiative

Central Queensland University has welcomed news that Nambour District schools have chosen its Noosa Teacher Education Campus (NoosaTEC) as district winner for Education Queensland's Showcasing Excellence Awards.

The State finals will be held in August.

NoosaTEC is a CQU/EQ partnership site which serves as a hub for delivery of new teacher education degrees for the Sunshine Coast region.

Nambour Education District Director Mr Rob McAlpine said the initiatives represented by NoosaTEC were preparing the current and future teaching workforce for the demands of Education Queensland's 2010 strategy.

NoosaTEC coordinator Mr David Lynch said he was pleased the initiative was recognised as credible and innovative. "The award is recognition for the 132 State school teachers who have worked tirelessly to make NoosaTEC the success that it is," he said.

A new CQU degree, the Master of Learning Management, has been developed at the coalface by industry-current teachers, for the professional development needs of industry-current teachers.

Nambour District is leading implementation of the MLM in partnership with CQU's Faculty of Education and Creative Arts. Around 40 local teachers and Education Queensland employees have joined the inaugural MLM cohort.

Meanwhile, Nambour is also a leading district for CQU's Bachelor of Learning Management degree, with two cohorts of pre-service teachers (total 115) hosted by more than 20 schools throughout the district.

The BLM program was also pioneered by the CQU/EQ partnership. Coursework includes a significant practical component whereby trainees work with an assigned learning manager in local schools and are required to demonstrate their theoretical knowledge in the form of outcomes for kids in classrooms.

Mr Lynch said CQU was extending the innovative MLM and BLM programs throughout regional Queensland via its campus network, and was keen to involve a wider network of teachers and schools.
