American intern Leah Hartman will be conducting research in Bundaberg for the next 10 weeks.
While in Bundaberg she will work under the guidance of Dr Matthew Rockloff, a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at CQUniversity Bundaberg, although the study will contribute to her honours degree through James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

The internship allows Leah to put her 3 years of theory into practice.

"It has been great to take what I have learnt in the classroom and relate that to real life," Leah said.

"After you have completed your degree and you are looking for a job, it helps to show that you have had some work experience in your chosen career field and that you have strong references from the people you have worked with".

When Leah first approached AustraLearn about overseas opportunities she didn't know how accommodating the organization would be to her wish list.

Leah said she was able to combine an overseas work experience trip as part of an internship which contributes to the degree she was completing. Australia was also on her ‘bucket list' of places to visit.

While in Bundaberg, Leah is living with her host family Adele and Phil Thomas.

Despite life being a little quieter than what she is used to back in America and her having a little trouble picking up some of our slang words and sayings, she is having a great time at CQUniversity in Bundaberg.

She will be in Bundaberg until mid August.

Leah has been recognized by as a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) as well as the fraternity Sigma Alpha Lambda, which is an Honours society for university students who are in the top percentile of their class.
