CQU Library sets new benchmark for service quality

A biennial client survey has earmarked Central Queensland University Library as one of Australia’s top university libraries.

The survey, administered by Rodski Behavioural Research Group, found when benchmarked against the other university libraries, CQU Library created a new high for service quality. The Library also rated highly in other categories, peaking marginally below the highest scores.

PhotoID:1045 The Library significantly improved its overall position, since the last survey, by moving into the top quartile of all libraries surveyed.

The survey was administered to 35 university libraries in Australia and New Zealand and targeted five categories: communication, service quality, service delivery, facilities and equipment and library staff.

CQU Library received over 1900 responses compared with just over 700 responses in 2001, providing a confidence level of 99% +-3%.

The survey included all CQU students using library resources at all Australian campus libraries.

Six of the 10 most important variables for clients related to library staff with the remainder focusing on the collection and access to resources. The 10 highest performing variables all related to the attitudes, skills and professionalism of staff.

Director of the Division of Library Services at CQU Margaret Appleton said: “The survey is a testimony to the skills, attitude and efforts by all library staff, and truly reflects the client focus of the Division".

The survey will assist with planning to ensure library services are meeting the needs identified by student comments in the survey.
