Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

23 nationalities represented at Melbourne graduation 

A total of 368 graduates from 23 nations will attend the CQU Melbourne International Campus graduation from 2pm on Tuesday, September 4 at the Crown Palladium Ballroom.

The guest speaker will be CQU Adjunct Professor Paul Rodan*, who is the Director, Academic Policy and Research for the Australian International Campuses of Central Queensland University.

Acting Chancellor Jim Tolhurst, Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Services) Professor Alex Radloff will attend the event.

* Paul Rodan previously held senior academic positions at the Melbourne International Campus, including Deputy Director (Academic) and Faculty Sub-Dean.

Paul commenced his academic career as a University tutor in the 1970's, before moving into academic administration in 1980.  He was the Registrar of the Faculty of Science at Monash University, as well as holding the position of an elected staff member of the University's governing Council.  In 1987 Paul was the recipient of the "Caroline Chisholm General Staff Award" for Outstanding Personal Merit.

After leaving Monash in early 2000, Paul combined a period as an honorary research associate with consulting work in post-secondary education, before joining C Management Services in 2002.  He has been a member of several CQU Committees and working parties, including the Education Committee of Academic Board and the Program Review Group.  He supervises CQU doctoral candidates and is also an Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the School of Political and Social Inquiry at Monash University.

Paul has published widely, mostly on aspects of federal and state politics, but also on higher education, especially governance.  He is an occasional contributor to the opinion pages of The Age newspaper in Melbourne, and is a member of the editorial board of the journal Australian Universities Review.  He has produced and presented several papers at conferences including the Senior Administrative Staff Conference of the Australian Vice-Chancellor's Committee in 2005, where he presented a paper entitled 'The Place of Universities in the New Higher Education World'.

He was an inaugural national vice-president of the National Tertiary Education Union, and is a life member of that organisation.
