Mentors key to smooth Orientation

Mentors are the key to a smooth Orientation at CQU.
The red-shirt brigade undertook training activities last week, which developed their skills in leadership, communication, and team work.
The Mentor Program, run by CQU Student Services during Orientation Week, links first year students with Student Mentors, who give support and assist in the transition to university life.
There are 230 on-campus Student Mentors who participated in the Mentor and Leadership program across the Noosa, Rockhampton, Mackay, Bundaberg, Emerald, Sunshine Coast, and Gladstone campuses.
The majority of new students who enrolled internally attended the Orientation week activities on-campus and are linked with a Student Mentor from their faculty of study.
External students also benefit from the program. There are 70 DE Mentors who are linked to over 300 new distance education students.
Julie Spence from Noosa sums up staff appreciation of our Student Mentors.
“I must say that I was really impressed with our Student Mentors over the past two days. It’s great to see such leadership qualities in our students, who did it all with a smile despite the large numbers. It certainly made life easier for us in the office.”.
