CQU Mackay welcomes Head of Campus

New Head of Campus at Central Queensland University (CQU) Mackay, Dr Trevor Davison, is looking forward to building on and improving the high-quality support and services that CQU Mackay currently provides for students and the region.

Trevor has a strong and varied background in education, focused on student success.

He believes that every person is capable of excelling in something and that their possibilities are framed by their unique genetic inheritance and their social, cultural and economic contexts.

PhotoID:3840 For most people, trying to excel in something will be inextricably linked with becoming a useful citizen, contributing towards the local and national economic and social good.

"For some people and their particular contexts, completing a university course will contribute to their excelling in something and becoming a good and productive citizen.

Facilitating this is a fundamental purpose of a university campus like CQU Mackay," he said.

"Similarly, for the success of regional business, industry and community, a university campus actively contributes to the growth and prosperity of the region by responding to local needs and providing a range of services, such as research and customized professional development. These are also fundamental purposes of CQU Mackay".

For the past 9 years, Trevor has worked for the Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates.

During that period Trevor was Dean of Fujairah Women’s College (1000 students) and Fujairah Men’s College (300 students).

Prior to that he held a range of system-wide roles with responsibilities in quality assurance, teaching, learning and assessment. His first position was with Abu Dhabi Men’s College as supervisor of teaching, learning and assessment.

Prior to his employment in the Middle East, Trevor was a senior lecturer with CQU and designed, managed and implemented what was then called the Professional, Adult and Vocational Education (PAVE) program.

Trevor has a PhD in Philosophy of Education, a Master of Arts in Adult Education and a Bachelor of Education.

He has undertaken consultation work in the mining industry in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Trevor started out as a heavy equipment mechanic and then taught his trade with Queensland TAFE and Bougainville Copper Ltd, Papua New Guinea.

For the next 15 years he worked in teacher education and teacher professional development.

Trevor has come to Mackay with his wife Terry and dog Tadger. Their 2 children, Grant (24) and Laura (21), live in Canberra.
