Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

230 graduates congratulated at Rocky ceremonies 

Last weekend’s (October 1) CQU Rockhampton graduation ceremony was a day of celebration for its 230 new graduates and their families.

CQU held two ceremonies, morning and afternoon, at the Rockhampton Baptist Tabernacle, 650 Norman Road.

PhotoID:2305 During the ceremonies, CQU Chancellor Mr Rennie Fitschy congratulated the graduates on their achievements and expressed how proud he was they chose CQU as their university.

CQU Vice-Chancellor & President Professor John Rickard welcomed the graduates into CQU’s Alumni.

“The CQU award you have received not only stands as a record of your academic achievement, but is also your entrance key to a world-wide community of CQU Alumni.” Among the presentations made during the ceremonies was the conferral of honorary awards of Companion of the University to Mr Hiroyuki Yamamoto and to Mr Ron and Mrs Helen Diamond; and conferral of the degree of Honorary Master of Applied Science to Mr Douglas William Wallace, OAM.

Local business owner/operator Grant Cassidy and Emeritus Professor Peter Swannell, former Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Southern Queensland, were the official guest speakers for the ceremonies.
