Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Education and Creative Arts in Limelight 

The Faculty of Education and Creative Arts has been in the limelight recently thanks to academic achievement and performing arts initiative.

The Faculty was proud to make a clean sweep of the Vice-Chancellor's academic staff awards for 2002.

Dr Beverley Moriarty, Ms Lyn Hughes, Ms Helen Holden and Ms Val Cleary, all based at CQU Gladstone, are the joint recipients of the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Quality Teaching. This award recognises that the recipients have demonstrated exceptional teaching skills and support for their students and have created an exciting and challenging environment that stimulates student learning.

Meanwhile, Dr Allan Harrison has been named as recipient of the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Progress in Research for 2002. Dr Harrison's research has contributed significantly to the field of Science Education and has deservedly received national and international recogniton.

In the area of performing arts, the 'Conservatorium' part of the Faculty has attracted significant public profile via the Tribute to Don Burrows jazz tour. Supported by the Conservatorium jazz orchestra, the tour has achieved six public concerts (from Mackay to Sydney), two live radio broadcasts, a recording session and a TV documentary.
