Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Happell welcomes focus on community health and well-being 

CQUniversity's Professor Brenda Happell has welcomed her appointment as Director of the Institute for Health and Social Science Research, pledging to retain the focus on improving the health and well-being of communities.

"It is an exciting opportunity to build on the existing strengths to enhance the profile of the IHSSR as nationally and internationally recognised for its contribution," she said.

Professor Happell will succeed Professor Stewart Lockie in the position, while continuing as Professor of Contemporary Nursing and Nursing Discipline leader.

The active researcher has a distinguished academic career that includes more than 120 research publications since 2003 and a career grants total of over $5 million.

She is Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Mental Health Nursing, Associate Editor of Issues in Mental Health Nursing, Fellow of the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses and a consultant to the World Health Organisation.

Professor Happell also has an impressive list of national and international keynote speaker invitations.

"Her excellent research track record and international standing is complemented by strategic leadership, management and communication qualities," said CQUniversity's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Scholarship & Industry), Professor Jennelle Kyd.

"Professor Happell's experience, research performance and leadership are attributes that will enable her in this new role to make a valuable and relevant contribution to leading IHSSR and enhancing the University's research profile."
