Federal Member for Dawson De-Anne Kelly officially welcomed 24 Korean students to Mackay during an address at CQU Mackay this week.
The students, from Ulsan College, South East Korea, arrived in Mackay on Sunday and commenced English classes on Monday at CQU Mackay after a welcome by staff and instructors of CQU.
The students were accompanied by Professor Kang from Ulsan College.
The visit was arranged through The Mackay International Education and Training Consortium (EdMac) and is the first International study tour organised by the group.
The students are in Mackay for four weeks and their learning will take place both in and out of the classroom.
The students' study program is designed to give them a chance to practice their English in a practical, everyday manner while also providing them with an opportunity to explore Mackay.
The students are housed with local families in a home stay environment, giving them further insight into life in Mackay.
Chair of EdMac and Head of CQU Mackay, Professor Phillip Clift said: “It is a wonderful opportunity for the region and it’s expected to be the first of many such visits by international students to Mackay”.
