Water-saving seminar draws full house

Water recycling and sustainable housing was hot topics at a free water seminar held at CQU Rockhampton on Friday February 17 (from noon-4pm in the main building 6 lecture theatre).

PhotoID:2495 An audience of 65 local and state government representatives, mining personel, local community groups including Greening Australia, farmers and researchers, came from as far afield as Longreach, Mackay and Caloundra.

The seminar organised by CQU’s Plant Sciences Group and wastewater researcher Ben Kele, focused on current CQU research, on-site and decentralised systems, local government issues and irrigation.

The seminar attracted Queensland water experts Ted Gardner, Principal Scientist with Water Cycle Sciences Group, and Ralph Woolley, General Manager of Econova, as keynote speakers.

Mr Kele said visitors found the talks inspirational and some of the farmers were very interested in the results obtained by CQU researchers with sub-surface drip irrigation.
