Business scholarships awarded in Mackay

Former North Mackay State High student Shaye Brodie and former Mirani State High student Andrew Brockhurst were recently awarded Central Queensland University (CQU) Business scholarships worth up to $5000.

Friends and family members attended the ceremony, along with Mirani State High Principal Shelley Lewis, North Mackay High Principal Linda Boyle and teacher Carolyn Thomas.

Shaye, a CQU Mackay first-year student, applied for the scholarship last year after hearing about it on a visit to the campus with Year 12s from North Mackay High.

"I didn't think I would get the scholarship but I figured I had to apply to have some chance and now I'm really glad I did," said Shaye.

Last week at CQU Mackay campus, Shaye gave current Year 12s of Mackay North High some encouraging advice and asked them to seek out scholarships and apply; no matter what the criteria.

"It doesn't just go on your academic grades, they also look at your community involvement, your goals and why you applied for the scholarship.  This scholarship has helped pay for my first semester fees which is a huge help," said Shaye.

Scholarships are available in a variety of different areas of study at CQU Mackay and can be viewed at: http://content.cqu.edu.au/Core/scholarship.do  .

If you like the idea of financial help to pay for text books and fees at university, get on line and actively start researching scholarships for next year.  Scholarships are offered through universities, government departments, industry and professional bodies.
