CQU projects in running for Engineering Excellence Awards

Two CQU projects are in the running for Engineering Excellence Awards conducted by Engineers Australia (Qld Division) and due to be announced on September 14.
Queensland Rail has nominated the Intelligent Train Monitor - a CQU Centre for Railway Engineering project led by Dr Colin Cole.
In addition, Tarong Energy has nominated (on behalf of Tarong, Stanwell and CS Energy) the Power Generation Skills Development program jointly developed by CQU, QUT and UQ.
CQU's Professor Peter Wolfs expressed delight that industry partners have "thought highly enough of these projects to nominate them" for a prestigious award.
The Intelligent Train Monitor uses train speed combined with prior knowledge of track conditions via a mathematical formula to create a ‘virtual train' in the computer.
The monitor provides the driver with ‘predictive' information - which arrives ahead of time to indicate whether or not the train's speed will exceed limits or if in-train forces will be too high. Details are at: Technology lets train drivers see further ahead
The Power Generation Skills Development program is a unique postgraduate professional development program which responds to urgent industry need for specialised education and training in power generation.
The program leverages the expertise of academic staff across 3 of Australia's leading universities and the specialist skills and professional knowledge of senior engineers in the Queensland power generation industry.
