More international recognition for CQU modelling and animation lecturer
Published on 27 June, 2006
CQU 3D modelling and animation lecturer Qing Huang has recorded yet another win in an international digital art competition, thanks to his unique multimedia piece entitled 'The Way'.
The latest win was the gold award in the open category at Comgraph2006, the 7th Asia Pacific Digital Art and Animation Competition held in Singapore last week (June 20-23).
The Rockhampton-based lecturer last year won the Best Animation award from China Central TV station. This award followed a visit to the United States where he exhibited his short multimedia piece at the 28th Asian American International Film Festival 2005.
Qing's new 3D modelling and animation courses are an important part of the new Bachelor of Digital Innovation degree to be offered by CQU.
'The Way' adapts ancient Chinese art principles to create a new media art form. Traditional Chinese brush-stroke methods and aesthetic principles are simplified and codified using modern computer imagery techniques.
Qing describes 'The Way' as a paradox; "it reconciles opposites, joining the timeless with the hyper-modern. It is a marriage between ancient Chinese philosophy and western chaos theory, revealing the underlying dynamic nature of the reality, pulsing with life, which surrounds us.
"'The Way' gives traditional Chinese ink-brush aesthetics new life through cutting-edge CGI techniques and shows us the direction of a new generation of digital animators".
