Central Queensland University Mackay lecturer and internationally renowned computer scientist Dr Victor Korotkich was the judge at this year’s McDonalds Maths Tournament.

PhotoID:1232 About 300 students from 10 junior and 10 senior schools competed at Mackay North State High School, with participants travelling from Koumala, Nebo and Proserpine to take part in the annual event on Tuesday.

Associate Professor Korotkich believed these competitions enhanced the awareness for numeracy in a fun and enjoyable setting.

“Students have competed in this event since 1996 and it was wonderful to see such enthusiasm from the students completing difficult mathematical tasks,” he said.

“This competition allows talented students to test their abilities against peers from other schools and also gives them an opportunity to extended their knowledge.
