CQU Health and Human Performance Associate Professor Peter Reaburn has been named The Morning Bulletin/CHR 2005 Senior Sports Star of the Year.
The award acknowledges Dr Reaburn's 7th placement in the 50-54 years division of the Hawaiian Ironman - the pinnacle of ironman racing.
After months of gruelling training, the CQU staff member covered the 3.8km swim, 180km ride and 42.2km run in 10 hours, 21 minutes and 26 seconds.
Dr Reaburn said he was even more proud of winning the Australian national championships at Forster in NSW in the 50-54 yrs Ironman in 9hr 56 mins to qualify for Hawaii.
"Without the support and understanding of my family, the lonely journey to Hawaii could not have been done," he said.
Dr Reaburn is now looking to concentrate on cycling ... "a more social sport".
