CQU seeks sightings of endangered bird
Published on 28 August, 2006
CQU's Centre for Environmental Management (CEM) is part of a push to encourage people to report sightings of the endangered Capricorn subspecies of yellow chat.
CEM research officer Wayne Houston is coordinator of a new sign to be erected at Twelve Mile Creek, one of only a few places in the world where the rare bird is found.
The sign, to be installed on Thursday (August 31), will inform campers and other visitors of the area's value as a habitat for endangered birds, particularly the Capricorn yellow chat.
A key message is that migratory birds and fish depend on Twelve Mile Creek.
Other stakeholders in the sign include the Threatened Species Network, the Fitzroy Basin Association, the World Wildlife Fund, the Natural Heritage Trust, and Action Salinity & Water Australia.
Sightings of the Capricorn yellow chat can be reported to 07 4936 0511.
Details are available from Mr Houston on 07 4930 9087 or w.houston@cqu.edu.au .
