Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

CQUniversity's national role in campus staff development 

CQUniversity Australia is among 8 institutions collaborating to deliver a shared professional development program for tertiary educators.

The new nationally-available Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education (GCTE) enables delivery of quality benchmarked teaching development programs.

Each of the partner universities will offer an elective unit. CQUniversity's elective is in the area of Education Technology.

According to its promotional brochure, the national GCTE promises:

- sustainable deliery;

- avoidance of duplicated effort;

- agreement on core elements; and

- drawing on expertise from a wider community.

Successful graduates can expect to boost their understanding of the theories and practices of tertiary teaching through a deeper understanding of how students learn. They will also develop a community of practice.
