Local artists' work pays off at Fair

A culmination of a year’s work will be showcased at the annual Cooee Bay Artists Exhibition at the CQ Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day this Sunday August 17.

About 50 pieces by artists throughout Central Queensland will be on show and on sale at the exhibition.

The Cooee Bay Artists come together once a year at a 10-day art camp to learn new styles and techniques from experienced tutors and to prepare for the upcoming annual exhibition. Bill Ferguson and Geoff LaGerche from the McGregor School in Toowoomba tutored at this year’s camp held in May.

Works produced during the camp and throughout the year will feature at this year’s exhibition.

The exhibition has been supported by Central Queensland University for the past four years.

“By staging this exhibition the University recognises the wonderful contribution made to the Central Queensland art scene by the annual Cooee Bay Art Camp and the artists who have participated in this event across 28 years,” Curator for the CQU Art Collection Deann Campbell said.

The Cooee Bay Artists Exhibition will be held in the CQU Rockhampton Arthur Appleton Gallery, Building 5, from Saturday August 16 until Friday August 22. Gallery times are 10am to 4pm.

CQ Multicultural Fair is a joint initiative between CQU and ABC Capricornia, with support from The Morning Bulletin and the Rockhampton City Council.
