Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

CQUniversity part of national push for better business education 

CQUniversity is actively engaged as a partner for an Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) project to enhance quality teaching in business education.

Our project team is meeting fortnightly to prepare for research focus groups with staff and students.

Associate Dean (Learning & Teaching) Beth Tennent is our contact for interaction with the partner institutions: Charles Sturt University, University of Southern Queensland, University of Western Sydney and the University of Queensland.

The project aims to utilise communities of practice within the established Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) Teaching and Learning Network to embed strategic systemic approaches to enhancing the value of teaching in business faculties.

The project will develop systems and processes to support and value quality teaching and increase academic recognition of the need for (and benefits from) developing teaching capacity and leadership.

Within an action research methodology, the project will engage academics, students, industry, and university stakeholders in reflecting on what is meant by, how to recognise, how to value, how to provide leadership in, and how to support quality teaching within business disciplines.

The project will take a strategic approach to enhancing the value of teaching in business education by implementing systems and processes that support and value quality teaching in business faculties.

This will be achieved by utilising an embedding strategy which includes:

- establishing layered communities of practice;

- systematising change through policies, procedures, and curriculum; and

- developing supporting resources and databases.

An evaluation strategy incorporating formative, summative and future learning purposes will ensure that the project outcomes are optimised.
