Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Blackmore to inspire graduates at CQU Sydney 

Chairman of renowned vitamin and herbal product company, Blackmores Ltd, Marcus C. Blackmore will be the guest speaker at the Central Queensland University Sydney International graduation ceremony next week.

More than 470 graduates will attend the ceremony on Monday, May 16, at the Sydney Town Hall, 483 George Street, from 12.30pm, to hear the inspiring words of the health care stalwart.

PhotoID:1931 Born and educated in Queensland, Mr Blackmore studied naturopathy, after serving in the Australian Army, and took over his father’s business in 1975. His father Maurice was a naturopath and chiropractor who built up one of Australia’s first preventative health care practices and founded the first Health Food Store in Australia.

Mr Blackmore is now the Executive Chairman of Blackmores Ltd, the now public company that employs 300 people in Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

During the official proceedings Campus Director’s Awards will be presented to Peter Kopiciar and Du Zhong. Mr Kopiciar will also present the closing address.

Chancellor Rennie Fritschy and Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard will take part.

Graduates will represent 42 countries including: Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Fiji, Hong Kong, Hungry, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mauritius, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Venezuela and Vietnam.

Musical performances will be contributed by St Andrew’s Cathedral School Choir and former Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music staff member Dimitri Kopanakis.
