Head of Campus resigns to lead PNG development project

CQUniversity Mackay Head of Campus Dr Trevor Davison will resign from CQUniversity at the end of October to take up an education and community development position in Papua New Guinea, it was announced this week.

Dr Davison has achieved much for the community since returning to CQUniversity in 2007, not least of which has been the massive development of the campus, with new construction and agreements secured to co-locate TAFE and other providers with the University on site.

He had been a senior lecturer with CQUniversity in the 90s, before moving to the United Arab Emirates for 9 years.

"Trevor's departure will leave a void in the University and the community," said CQUniversity Vice Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman.

"He has enhanced the University's reputation and helped to ensure our sustainability. He truly is an ‘engaged' educator and I'm sure the people of PNG will benefit immensely from his dedication, professionalism and expertise," added Professor Bowman.

Dr Davison will work for the Papua New Guinea Sustainable Development Program, helping the people of Western Province as they work toward the scale down and closure in 2013 of the Ok Tedi Mine Ltd (OTML), located at Tabubil.

His role will be to lead a sustainable education and training future, emphasising vocational education and university preparation and developing a range of partnerships with education and training providers in Australia and internationally. He will also be involved in the development of the future governance of Tabubil, in readiness for life post-OTML.

"The future of CQUniversity - and the Mackay campus particularly - as envisioned by VC Scott Bowman, is very exciting. However, I accepted my new position before Scott arrived and my decision is about a new and exciting lifestyle for my wife and I," said Dr Davison.
