Science film festival at CQU Mackay
Published on 23 August, 2005
The annual science film festival, SCINEMA, is screening again this year, as part of National Science Week activities.
The popular film festival has been running annually since 2000, and this year SCINEMA will come to CQU Mackay for a free weekend film festival on August 27-28.
Mackay SCINEMA goers will be treated to a selection of 17 fascinating films over the weekend with topics as diverse as, 'Evil Dust – The History of Asbestos' to 'Shake Rattle and Roll – A Journey with Parkinsons'.
Often controversial, the short films present some of the latest scientific research across a diverse range of topics including 'Who’s Afraid of Designer Babies', a film about the pre-screening of embryos conceived through IVF and the potential uses for this technology.
Other films include a topic close to home, the 'Crown of Thorns Starfish'.
Sessions will commence at 1pm on Saturday and Sunday in Buildings 1, 6 and 20 at the CQU Mackay Campus, Boundary Road, Planlands. All films have a General classification and are suitable for all ages. Admission is free.
