CQUniversity Pro Vice-Chancellor (Community & Engagement) & Head of Campus at CQUniversity Mackay, Professor Pierre Viljoen, said it was fantastic to see local students receive a helping hand while undertaking further education.

"I am always pleased to see scholarships and awards being presented to our bright, local students like Geena and Matthew."

"Thanks to community organisations like the Rotary Club of Mackay North, these students are now able to focus on becoming the best graduates they can be."

Geena said the scholarship will be a huge help in getting her through a nursing degree while also juggling part-time work at an Aged Care Facility in Mackay.

"This money will go towards my uni feeds, as well as my attempt to head over to Nepal in November this year with CQUniversity to volunteer in hospitals, school and clinics."

Having grown up in the mining community of Moranbah, Matthew is hoping to use his scholarship to further his career aspirations in Engineering, and remain in the region upon graduation.
