Lost historical Mackay publication resurfaces after eight years

Eight years after being a sell-out local best seller, the last remaining books detailing the history of Mackay have resurfaced.

PhotoID:864 Sweet Settlement co-author Bern Howlett was overjoyed when Mackay City Council employee Jeanette Thompson found two boxes of the books while cleaning through office space.

“The book was extremely popular locally and sold out within 12 months. Co-author Professor David Myers gave these books to former Mayor Cr Gordon White to distribute to visitors, so it is a pleasant surprise to have them returned after all these years,” she said.

The book includes highlights from Mackay’s history from 1860-1918. Copies of the book can be purchased for $35 from Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music. Enquiries can be made by telephoning 4940 7815.
